Our management team has unique experience in the provision of structures, web-based technology and the definition of processes for financial service providers throughout the world. eHKonnect Limited itself is the culmination of those experiences. OUR REPUTATION

We are a licensed financial institution fully compliant with our regulators. We are regulated in Hong Kong under license number 16-10-01953 by the Hong Kong Customs and Excise department in association with the Joint Financial Treasury Unit and the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau.

We have suffered no adverse report from our regulator or other official body.

However, we are aware anonymous, malicious internet postings have been made that wrongly allege we have failed in some way.

Whilst these allegations are false, they are anonymous, solely web based and therefore difficult to challenge. To ensure our integrity, we instructed independent external compliance experts to carry out a full investigation of the allegations, our structures, internal compliance and procedures. This review provided us with a clean bill of health. It found no substance to the allegations whatsoever.

COMPLIANCE

Compliance and expertise

To open an account with us, you will have to provide some essential documentation. For every corporate account we need to have a copy of the ID and proof of residence for the account signatory, directors and shareholders. To prove your identity and in line with today’s modern technology, we ask you to take a ‘selfie’ holding your passport with the passport details clearly visible.

We also need proof that the signatory has the right to open the account and to manage the funds of the corporation, such as a power of attorney or a board resolution.

We also follow Anti-Money Laundering rules in all the jurisdictions in which we operate.

Know your client

The basis of know your client (KYC) is to demonstrate that the individuals attached to the application (signatory, beneficial owner, directors, etc) exist. Simply put, KYC is to demonstrate that the applicant(s) are, who they say they are and live where they say they live.

For every account as well as requiring verified ID we require verified proof of residence (as mentioned above), such as a utility bill or land-line telephone bill, dated within the last 3 months of the application date. Bank statements or mobile telephone bills are not accepted as a valid proof of residence.

We will also often call you by telephone and/or Skype to ask for a face to face interview as a way of verifying your identity.

Corporate Due Diligence

As must be expected we also need the Certificate of Incorporation as well as all supporting registration documents, as per the jurisdiction where the company is based, and which shows that the company is legitimately incorporated and currently active. We should also know who the ultimate beneficial owner(s) are and have the documentation to support this.

Where we cannot verify companies by a Government registry all documents must be certified by a notary, qualified accountant, lawyer, bank officer or police officer. We must also have sufficient details to be able to contact the certifier to confirm that they are qualified and have carried out the certification.

For those applicants who may require a license for any of the activities, we would expect to see this and verify its authenticity.

Transactional Due Diligence

We will often ask you to justify why transactions are being made, and demonstrate the economic basis of the payment. This may be done via telephone and/or by email.

You should be prepared to provide us with invoices, purchase orders, delivery notes, contracts and any other documentary evidence that show the transactions that are being made have a verifiable economic basis.

We reserve the right to contact the other parties involved for confirmation of the legitimacy of the transaction we have requested further information on.
